So Why......?

It's very interesting to decide where to begin in the first blog.  Where am I in my quilting adventure?  Have I made anything yet?  Why did I decide to start quilting?  Why the name?  Why am I blogging? Well I don't want to write an autobiography or anything so I'll just start with the Whys.

Why did I decide to start quilting?  Well, my cousin wanted to have a baby.

Weird, right?  I guess, but I love my cousin so I'm sure I'll love her squirmy, slobbery child when she decides to push one out so I wanted the little being to have something from me.  We grew up very close but unfortunately when I got married I moved halfway across the state so I don't get to see her often.  I thought that perhaps if her baby has something from me, it can remember me that way too.  Who knows, maybe I'll be nice and make something for her too someday :)

Why the name?  If you've read my tiny profile, you'd already know that I'm 24.  Apparently quilters my age are rare and when I tell people I either get reactions of "OH! That's WONDERFUL!" or "You really quilt?  That's strange."  When I told my husband that I wanted to quilt he gave me something close to the second reaction.  Plus a "I didn't know I married an old lady."  Well, apparently you did DH, and guess what!  I like going to bed at 9pm, baking stuff to fatten you up, wearing comfy clothes/walking around in my pj's and yes, even sewing.  Maybe I'll get into yelling at kids for playing on my lawn, but I haven't decided yet.  So anyways, now DH always says I have an old soul, but usually in a loving way...

Now, why oh why am I blogging?  I don't tend to watch facebook like other people my age.  I've never even seen twitter.  And yet I'm here.  Talking to you.  Since I've moved I discovered that we don't have anyone our age in our neighborhood.. at all.  I've also discovered that my town doesn't have a lot of community events.  I don't like paying to exercise.  I work long hours (by choice) and have at least an hour commute each way when I'm not stuck in traffic.  These things make it difficult to find other people with my interests.  Plus the fact that I like to spend time with my DH on the weekends when I don't have time to do it during the week.  Hopefully this blog will give me a chance to hear from other quilters, get advice, and talk to myself you about what I'm working on.  Plus I found that I can spend HOURS on quilting blogs (and ironically, some parenting blogs though I'm nowhere near wanting kids) so why not?
